If you ever had a chance to watch squirrels for a while then you will realize that squirrels like to have fun. They like chasing each other and sometimes by teasing neighbourhood dogs or chasing each other. Squirrels are amazing climbers that belong to the rodent family. Squirrels have large, bushy tails and will stand motionless if they sense danger. Squirrels are also heavily infested with pests, which can spread into your home or business searching for hosts. Ticks, fleas, chiggers and mites are all known carriers of disease.

Squirrels are opportunistic feeders. That is, they will find the closest and easiest source of food. Squirrels are gluttons, and they are curious. That said, trapping is still difficult, and bait doesn’t really matter. Squirrels are often viewed as an attractive addition to our wildlife and they regularly frequent gardens. However, they may become a nuisance and, where they gain access to buildings, the chewing of materials, including electrical wiring, can cause damage and pose a fire hazard.

Squirrels are amazing jumpers. Place the feeder in a relatively open space. Squirrels are particularly difficult to control due to their omnivorous and generalist characteristics. While squirrels rank among the most preferred of urban wildlife due to their loveable faces and antics, they also rank first among troublemakers of urban animals (4). Squirrels are very active, fun loving creatures. Unfortunately, their definition of fun is every person’s agony.

The reason is that roofs are great places to find water easily and they don’t have many predators there. Pigeons become sexually mature at about six months of age. Pigeons are monogamous birds, often staying with the same partner from year to year. Most species build a fragile-looking nest often in a tree, but sometimes on man-made structures.

The ones we see in Toronto are mostly gray with a whitish rump, two black bars on secondary wing feathers, and a broad black band on their tail. Some variations are white with tanned or black variations. City pigeons are not at all afraid of people as they live in cities all their life. Many people even systematically feed pigeons and thus contributing to the growth of their population.

Toronto can subsist on just about any kind of diet, and will crowd out songbirds that feed near them. Pigeons are carriers of bacteria, fungi and nematodes and serve as reservoirs for numerous viral encephalitic diseases. Many of the parasitic mites associated with pigeons also bite humans. Pigeons are a pest. However, don’t poison them. You can have a professional take care of your pigeon problem. Call a pigeon removal Toronto expert to get rid of your pigeons for you.

Skunks are considered a pest by some because they dwell in near cities. Skunks are very curious by nature. They like to explore areas in cities at night. Skunks are not aggressive at all. Nevertheless, the do damage to lawns and gardens because they dig around when looking for grubs.

You will know when a skunk has visited your lawn because skunks leave distinct cone shaped holes when they dig for insects in the ground. Skunks are known to be carriers of rabies and in some areas nearly 65 percent of all skunks are carriers of the disease. Skunks are not monogamous creatures. They are polygamous and mate between mid-February to mid-March.

Aside from the holes they leave behind you will know you are visited by a skunk by the distinct scent they leave behind. Every skunk has the ability to discharge a nauseating musk from their anal glands. They do so to deter predators and they are very successful in doing so. The reason why you don’t really see skunks during the day is because they are nocturnal mammals. They prefer to hunt during the night. They feed on grubs, insects, small rodents, fruit, berries, mushrooms and other food items. In urban wildlife areas, they feed on pet food, garbage, fruit that has fallen from trees, and garden vegetables.

In terms of physical appearance their toes are very flexible and that is why raccoons are very good at grabbing things with their front feet. This is the reason they can hold on to things. Raccoons are very good at climbing because of their flexible hands and they can even climb down things backwards.

Looking for the perfect opportunity to dine, raccoons spend a great deal of they day rummaging through trash, and can even be seen using their front claws to pry open cans and other things. In the wild when there is no garbage to feed on raccoons can fish, forage and pretty much eat anything they find. They feed on clams, frogs and other kinds of wildlife. Just like most wild animals, raccoons feed a lot in the summer months so they can store fat for the winter months.

In urban centres raccoons can create problems for home owners as they can feed off garbage bins and make a mess. Raccoons can also burrow in roofs, basements and attics and aside from the disturbances they can cause by staying up all night they can also cause damage. Also keep in mind that raccoons are carriers of the rabies virus so if you have a raccoon problem it is best to contact someone you know to deal with the raccoon removal.

To prevent damage to property, homeowners are permitted to kill red squirrels. Squirrels are almost never found to be infected with the rabies virus . Squirrels also have not been known to cause rabies in humans within the United States. Squirrels are great climbers of trees and trees are their favourite habitat. They try to avoid the ground feeling insecure there.

Squirrels are great observers and if you are seen in a given area repeatedly, you will spook them into being very wary of this new device which is suddenly available in their territory and attracting attention from humans. Catch success will drop over time. Squirrels are members of the rodent family, and they need to chew to wear down their ever growing teeth. The are very active year-round, and a mother squirrel bears young twice a year, usually in February and August, and nurse the 3-5 young for three months. Squirrels are a source of both amusement and frustration. It is amusing to watch a squirrel burying a full ear of corn under a pile of fallen leaves.

Raccoons usually live on their own in other words live solitary lives. Sometimes raccoons live in groups where males and females raise their young. This usually occurs in dens during the winter months. Raccoons eat a lot and are sometimes capable of gaining a lot of fat. In some cases half their body mass is fat. This happens in northern parts of the world where they need the protection from the cold. Male raccoons are in most cases a lot heavier than females. Males can outweigh females by 10 to 30%. Male raccoons usually reach sexual maturity within a couple of years, whereas female raccoons do so within a year.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor) is a native to north America mammal. Although sizes vary, most raccoons measure about 3 feet long. This includes their 12-inch, bushy, ringed tail. Raccoons have a hunched appearance because their front legs are shorter than their back legs. Raccoons can live in trees or burrow in man made structure such as homes. They particularly like living in urban areas as there is an abundance of food they can live off of. If an overhanging tree branch is at least 1 inch in diameter, then that will be the way the raccoon accesses the building. Look for scratch marks on the tree.

Regardless of which North American city you live in you will come across a raccoon at one point or another. The reason is that raccoons are scavengers and can survive by eating anything they find. They live in populated areas as they can find food in our trash. They are really smart creatures and that’s why they have what it takes to thrive in cities. If you come across a raccoon in a city don’t hurt the raccoon. It is best that you contact a raccoon removal Toronto expert to take care of business for you.

Most people don’t have problems with pigeons. However, in some cases pigeon populations can grow fast and reach large numbers. The major problem with pigeons is that their droppings are acidic so they can corrode things. Another issue with pigeons is that they can carry diseases and fleas that can transfer to animals.

Pigeons are also unusually skilled in finding water and food sources and that is one of the reasons they survive very well in cities. Some pigeons can have a range of over 100 kilometres however, in cities like Toronto, experts have observed that pigeons have a range of about 25 miles.

The interesting fact about pigeons is that they can be domesticated. Most wild city pigeons that we see every day are descendants of captive domesticated pigeons that have escaped and populated. In general, pigeons are scavengers. They will eat whatever they find and that’s why they are really good at finding their own food sources. Pigeons are not at all picky about their food, some even feed on feces. Nevertheless, pigeons are usually clean in their habits and when they find water pools they bathe.

Some people even keep then as pets. Skunks really enjoy being able to take care of the little ones until they are old enough to be on their own in the wild. These mammals are an important part of our environment and most wildlife rehabilitators will not take in baby skunks since they already have their hands full with other wildlife. Skunks are a mild-mannered, slow-moving, mind-your-own-business kind of animal. If provoked, they may spray people or pets.

Skunks are members of the weasel family. Most people can identify a skunk by their jet-black fur with one or more white stripes running down their backs. There are even skunk sub species and one particular one looks as though it is wearing a hood, with neck hair spread out into a ruff. Stripe runs from their tail to the top of their head.

Skunks are famous for their smell. If a skunk is in danger, it will spray an awful smelling liquid called musk. Skunks are not usually aggressive, and will typically avoid or scamper away from humans when encountered. Skunks are often considered nuisances, especially when they choose to den underneath homes, dig cone-shaped holes in yards looking for grubs, or simply the smell of their odour of being in the area. Making the area unattractive to skunks is one of the best ways to resolve nuisance issues. If you have a skunk issue then your best bet is to someone who knows how to deal with a skunk removal to do the job.

There are many parks in the city. Small or large if you look at a city map through google maps you will see that a good part of our city is absolutely green. There are small rivers that connect to larger ones.

You can find a complete list of parks in Toronto in Wikipedia. Although, you will find dedicated pages for only a few the list is fairly comprehensive. These parks have a lot of urban wildlife living in them. You wont really come across this wildlife if you take a walk in one of these parks during the day. It is mostly at night when all the little critters make their way out.

The most prominent parks in Toronto are High Park, Kew Gardens in the beaches, The Leslie Street Spit, Cedarvale Park, Withrow Park, Dentonia Park, the Scarborough Bluffs, The Rouge Valley in scarborough, Dufferin Grove Park and Raymore Park just to name a few.

Living near one of these parks means that you will have to deal with the occasional visit from raccoons, skunks and of course squirrels. If you are livng near such a park it is probably the case that you have urban wildlife near your home. Dont hurt these animals if they are bothering you. Get someone to deal with them, someone who knows. Get an animal control toronto expert.

Depending on the location of the city there are urban creatures living in the gardens, in the parks in our backyards. Where I live, in Toronto we have several kinds of animals living in the city. Most of the animals are mammals, such as the raccoon, the skunk and the squirrel. Toronto, just like every other city, also has many wild birds such as pigeons.

It is fascinating how these critters have adapted. There are any opportunities for these small animals to find food in the city. They feed in gardens, in parks and of course by eating city waste. There are humane ways of dealing with them. Just get someone to perform animal control Toronto. As the city of Toronto is full of wildlife we need to find ways to co-exist without hurting these animals. Your best bet is to just get someone to deal with the animal who knows what they are doing and will not hurt the animal.

Unfortunately, because these animals interfere with our day to day activities they are considered to be pests. As a result, people use terrible ways to remove them. Some people poison them, use traps. The goal of this site is to spread awareness regarding urban wildlife and to make sure that every year that goes by there are fewer animals like these that get injured and hurt.

One of the reasons why wildlife is fairly active in such a big city is the fact that Toronto has many parks and greenery. A good example of how people in the city need to keep an eye out for animals is the incident where a deer made its way to Toronto’s downtown core. In the picture, you can see two Toronto police officers staring at the wild deer while it was scared and sitting under a tree.

There is a lot of wildlife in Toronto. If you take a walk in a city neighborhood during the night, and not really too late you will definately come across a raccoon trying to open up a bin for dinner just like in the picture above. The raccoon is much more common than that poor deer that probably lost its way and ended up downtown. The other night, I was walking in downtown toronto, and I came across two raccoons. After I froze for a second I just walked away as I felt I had scared them enough. If you also come across a raccoon, dont instigate it. Just walk away, raccoons in the city are very accustomed to humans and wont attack or be a threat.

If you have a wild animal living in your yard, attic, or basement please don’t hurt it. Contact someone who knows what they are doing and will take care of the animal. Get in touch with a wildlife control Toronto technician.
